6 Hotels, 22 nights, 5 Counties

7th Nov 2021 Yes, we know. We are supposed to be ‘on the road’ – lapping up the freedom and travelling the world. However we have spent the last 6 weeks staying mainly in hotels in several places throughout Gloucestershire, Hampshire, Buckinghamshire, Devon and Somerset.  Well an opportunity came up to earn some dosh and catch up with old acquaintances. As many of you know (especially as I mentioned it…

Work Stops Play

28th Sept 2021 So… it has been a while since our last blog and for good reason. Our travels have slowed down over the last 6-7 weeks partly due to long term planning and partly with late changes.  It was time to catch up with connecting with the Somerset/Gloucestershire area families following a brilliant and exciting spring and summer.  We were sad to leave the Lake District after what was…

Holiday in the Lake District

12th July 2021 So… we had a 18 day ‘holiday’ pre-booked at a campsite near Keswick but entered the Lake District for a couple of days wild camping in advance. Well, what an interesting and exciting welcome to the area with the roads immediately becoming small and narrow. Mich had located a car park alongside mountains and between Lake’s Buttermere and Crummock which looked ideal. Always keen to put Ruby…

Yorkshire hills once more

1st July 2021 So. Here we are once again. Into July in England and with the country drowning in summer rain and thunderstorms. ! On leaving the cosy overnight stops of suburban Pontefract we headed slightly north for a wild camping site on Ilkley Moor. But first we thought we should pop into Thorpe Arch near Wetherby to watch the Leeds United players at their training ground on their first…

Scotland Plus

15th June 2021 After spending a big chunk of time in England and Wales it was time for a change of country again. We had planned on trekking all the way up into the Scottish Highlands for many weeks and to do the famous NC500 (North Coast 500 miles). However with a little bit of persuasion I carried out some research into midges and discovered that they were in fact…

June – the first half

1st June 2021 Well, after that limited blog in May you are lucky enough to have lots of lovely content for the first half of June. Sorry if it is a big long but it is also a record of our activities for our own use when reading this in 20 years time! So, we spent a rather wet month in Pateley Bridge during May and thankfully the sunshine turned…

Cold, Wet Pateley Bridge

Blog So… where did we leave off..? After a couple of weeks with Wild Camping we spent the entire month of May at Riverside Campsite in Pateley Bridge.  This was pre-booked several months prior as we wanted to ensure a good stretch of time at this favoured location. A monthly special rate of just £415 to include two bank holiday weekends was also too good to miss.  Much as we…

Wales and Wirral

30th April Moel Famau So… after a short 25 mile drive via a supermarket top-up we got back onto the ‘Wild’ Camping still within Wales. Once again the Search for Sites app in the hands of Michelle found us up in the hills at Moel Famau-between Ruthin and Mold. This was yet another gravel, sloping car park though this time with the joys of large gravel stones. The car park…

Escape to that Wales

22nd April 2021 Hi, this time I am writing this blog whilst sitting in my deckchair alongside Michelle and Ruby in the middle of North Wales. It is sunny and warm. At last. A family has just walked past smiling “You’ve got this right. You working from home?”!  We have now been out of our enforced Lockdown restrictions for 7 days and loving the change of pace. As mentioned previously…

How to endure the Winter..

31 March 2021 Still Slimbridge So.. here I am.. writing this new blog whilst sitting on the fixed bed in the back of Ruby, nice and cosy. It is shocking rain outside and very, very windy. Bizarrely this is quite comforting and perhaps feels like sticking my middle finger up to the weather… ‘I am still here, warm and dry..so do your worst!’  This is the first blog for over…

Let the Travels……. stall at the first hurdle.! – 12th Jan 2021

Well, when I spoke to you last time we were safely parked up on our pitch in Slimbridge Gloucestershire awaiting the travel to Europe. We had the Channel Tunnel booked for 10th January from Folkestone to Calais for our travels proper. (Fully refundable- (does this tell you how confident we were about the viability of the journey!)) We are unfortunately still parked up safely on our pitch in Slimbridge six…
